Disclosure:  Discount School Supply sent me a set of their Colorations Glitter Liquid Watercolors for free.  I was not swayed by the free product because I already loved glitter.  And liquid watercolors.

This is the next post in a series of Easy Art for Kids - today's theme is Resist Art.  Once you're done reading about our project, be sure to click through the links at the end of the post to see even more ways to explore resist art!

With Easter coming up next month, S and I figured we'd get a jump start on decorating our house.  Our mantle is often bare, and so we figured it was high time we made a garland.  I cut an egg shape out of some cardstock and traced and cut out a dozen eggs from some of our favorite watercolor paper (I was able to fit three eggs per piece of paper to give you a better idea of the scale).  First up, S decorated them however she pleased with a white crayon.

Then, using some Elmer's Glue All, she created glue patterns on each egg.  After that we allowed the eggs to dry overnight.

The next day, armed with ultra bright and sparkly Colorations Glitter Liquid Watercolors, she painted each egg however she wanted.   This is her "Dada egg" because blue is his favorite color.

Hard at work creating.  The rainbow egg is her "Mama egg" because I love rainbows.  Sweet girl!

Here's a close up of one of the completed eggs.  The glitter is super sparkly, but somehow I couldn't quite catch it on my camera - so you'll just have to trust me on that one.

Three of her brightest eggs on the garland.

The proud artist showing off her completed Easter Egg garland!

  8. Just wondering. What does the glue do different from the white crayon?

    1. It was actually pretty interesting - the glue we used absorbed some of the color, but it's MUCH lighter. The white crayon resisted the watercolors altogether. It was a bit of an experiment, since I wasn't sure if they would actually do something different - but they did!
