Hi guys!  As many of you have heard, I have a brand new chapter book series coming out in March of next year.  It's been such a fun process and I'm really excited about the final product.

The series follows Zoey, a sweet and kind kiddo who loves science experiments and exploring nature.  In each book, Zoey and her silly bug-eating cat Sassafras use the scientific method to help a magical creature with a problem.

If you are the person your friends go to for recommendations on books and/or toys, if you're active in parenting groups, if you're active on social media -- basically if you're excited to share things you love with other parents -- we'd love to have you apply to be a part of the Zoey and Sassafras Parent Launch Team!

The books feature real age-appropriate scientific concepts, larger font size, and black and white illustrations on almost every page.  They make a great read aloud for kiddos in grades K/1 and a great independent read for kids in grades 2-4.

Not only did I get to work with an amazingly talented illustrator from the UK, Marion Lindsay,...

...but I also got to work with my daughter, S.  She painstakingly hand wrote (and drew) all of the main character's science journal entries and she helped me craft the kid-friendly vocabulary definitions in the glossary at the back of the book.

If you've followed me for awhile now, you've probably heard me mention how big of a deal preorders are.  A lot of the bigger retailers and bookstores keep an eye on how the presales of a book are doing and use that to decide whether or not they'll have a book on the shelves.

I'm excited to say that Barnes and Noble has already decided to carry this series in their stores (YAHOOO!) but a lot of stores are still waiting to decide.  To hopefully help boost the excitement for the series and the preorders, we're trying something new this time around...

A Parent Launch Team!

If you are the person your friends go to for recommendations on books and/or toys, if you're active in parenting groups, if you're active on social media -- basically if you're excited to share things you love with other parents -- we'd love to have you apply to be a part of the Zoey and Sassafras Parent Launch Team!

If you're selected as a part of our launch team, you'll get this free kit of goodies in mid-January 2017:

If you are the person your friends go to for recommendations on books and/or toys, if you're active in parenting groups, if you're active on social media -- basically if you're excited to share things you love with other parents -- we'd love to have you apply to be a part of the Zoey and Sassafras Parent Launch Team!

It includes: one Zoey and Sassafras book tote, one (signed by me!) Advanced Reader Copy of Dragons and Marshmallows (Zoey and Sassafras book 1), four Zoey and Sassafras postcards, three Zoey and Sassafras bookmarks, five Zoey and Sassafras temporary tattoos, one Sassafras refrigerator magnet, and four Zoey and Sassafras stickers.

We are looking for parents from all over the US (though the book will be available worldwide, the cost of shipping the kit outside of the US is unfortunately too high) who have a variety of connections to relevant communities (parent groups, elementary schools, libraries, homeschool groups, etc).  We have a limited number of kits available; we will not be able to send one to everyone who applies.

Applications for the Parent Launch Team are open now through December 31, 2016.

To apply:

1.  Read this excerpt of the first book in the series.  We want to make sure that you think you'll enjoy the book and that the reading level, etc, is appropriate for your child (or children).

2.  Fill out the application here.

3.  Then it's time to wait.  :)  We will be making decisions in the first week of January 2017 and will contact everyone who's applied then.

  4. How did I miss this before now?! I've preordered the books on Amazon, but I'm guessing we're not who you'd be looking for as the Parent Launch Team, since Ben is still in Pre-K because of school cut-off dates here. If I'm wrong, let me know and I'll fill out an application. :)

    1. My reach on social media is AWFUL lately so any time I share stuff it usually is only shown to about 1,000 out of 96,000 -- so easy to miss!!! And if you think Ben would enjoy the story (and be able to follow along), I'd love to have you apply! There's a link to the sample above so you can see what he thinks. Thank you so much Mandy!!! <3

  5. Looks like we missed the cut-off. We love science and have 2 highly inquisitive kiddos so we will be on the look-out for your books. My 5 and a 1/2 year old is just starting to read chapter books. Looks like it'd be a good fit. We also love the Curious Kids Science Book. We're borrowing it from our library

    1. Oh bummer! Yes, please check out the series (you can request it at your library, order it online, or get it at your local bookstore) because it sounds like it would be a perfect fit for your kids! The books should be in stores in the next 2-3 weeks. :) :) :)
